My Photographs

Here i had to take 24 photographs and annotate each one. I will then choose 12 of these photographs to be manipulated and then added to my final calendar design.
Here is my first photograph of signage. This signage was in the BBC Three Counties Radio. Here my photograph has been taken above the signage; it is also taken at an angle that brings in another signage however the other signage can’t be read. The lettering on this signage at the top are uppercase, the letters are close together and slim which makes it look neat. The lettering below is lowercase, its bolder and thicker than the lettering above it which makes it stand out.

Here is my second photograph of signage. This signage was at the side of a shop. Here my photograph has been taken below the signage looking up. As you can see i took it at an angle which is why some of the lettering isn’t in the photograph, I done this because i took inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work as it is different. The lettering on this signage is all lowercase, they are spaced out and have unique serifs that give it a old but posh look.

Here is my third photograph of signage. This signage was at the back of a van. Here my photograph has been taken head on but not in the center as I wanted to capture some surroundings to give the photograph a better effect however because it was dark you cant see anything. The lettering on the signage is all uppercase, its all close together almost like its merged. Its thick and bold which makes it stand out on the van.

Here is my fourth photograph of signage. This signage was outside a property auction house. Here my photograph has been taken head on which eliminates the top section of the signage. I done this to and keep all the surroundings around the signage in the photograph which is one thing Robert Brownjohn done quite a lot in his Street Level work. There is also another inspiration taken from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work which was capturing more than one signage in the same photograph. I done this but capturing the number plate as well as the signage outside the property auction house. The lettering on the signage outside the auction house is all lowercase, they are round and quite close together which look nice. The lettering on the number plate is all uppercase, they look sharp and squared which makes it look neat.

Here is my fifth photograph of signage. This signage was on the front of a bin. Here my photograph is in the center, i captured the signage looking down to capture the whole object the signage is on and also to get surroundings for effect. The lettering is all uppercase, its bold and worn a little which gives it a great effect.

Here is my sixth photograph of signage. This signage was on a gate. Here my photograph of the signage was not quite in the middle as i felt it would give a great effect capturing more of the gold spikes in the photograph as they look interesting. I took this photograph looking up at the signage because more of the gate can be seen which gives a great effect. The lettering on the signage is lowercase, its thick and bold which makes it easy to read.

Here is my seventh photograph of signage. This signage was on a lampost. Here i captured the signage more too the left looking up. My reason for this was because i wanted to capture the bush that was behind the signage to make the image look interesting while also taking inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level Series work. The lettering on this signage is all uppercase, part of it is bolder and thicker while the lettering below is small and skinny.

Here is my eighth photograph of signage. This signage was on the side of a car. Here i captured the signage in the center of the page tilting the camera down a little so i captured the floor aswell. My reason for this was because i wanted to capture the signage and also something under the signage which happened to be the ground. I got inspiration from one of Robert Brownjohns photographs where he done the same type of thing. The top lettering of this signage is lowercase, its bold and has serifs which give is a great look. The bottom lettering is uppercase, its really thich and bold which causes it to be spaced out and eye-catching.

This is my ninth piece of photography of signage. This sign was at the corner of the road. Here I captured the signage a little to the right so the darkness is shown in the photograph for a better effect, also to get more of the leafless bush to show the season. This could be placed in a month that would match it such as december. This lettering is all uppercase, all the letters are slim and has small serifs that make it look grand.

This is my tenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was by the side of the road. Here I captured the signage more over to the left tilting the camera up to the right, this is so I could capture the light in the background to make the photograph more effective. The lettering on this signage is all uppercase, they have long serifs which make it look posh.

This is my eleventh piece of photography of signage. This sign was on a door at the back of some shops. Here I captured the signage tilting the camera up from quite a distance and in the center. This is so that the other objects can be seen in the image to create attraction, also to capture all the signage on the door. The lettering on this signage is mostly lower case, they are all thick and bold which makes it easy to read.

This is my twelfth piece of photography of signage. This sign was on a crate at the back of some shops. Here I captured the signage more to the left head on but at a different angle which helped capture the lights in the background. The lettering on this signage is all uppercase,  its long, thin and close together which make it look neat.

This is my thirteenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was on a old lamppost  Here I captured the sign more over to the left, this is so I could capture the wall In the photograph to make it look different and not original. The lettering on this signage is lowercase, its small and slim which makes it easy to read.

This is my fourteenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was at the corner of a junction. Here I captured the sign more to the right tilting up which helped get the glow effect coming from the signage. There was two signs captured in this photograph which makes the photo look better as there is double glow. The top lettering is all uppercase, its spaced out and bold which makes it eye-catching and clear to read. The lettering below it is lowercase, its bold aswell but looks simple.

This is my fifteenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was on the top of a shop. Here I captured the sign from the right so I could catch two pieces of signage in one photograph from different shops taking main inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work. The lettering is all uppercase, its thick and bold which helps it stand out a lot; the type is also rounded with shot rounded serifs at the end which gives a nice look to the lettering. The lettering on the other is also uppercase, it looks bold and squared with short edges which make it look different.

This is my sixteenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was by a parking area. Here I decided to capture this sign head on and in the centre. My reason for this is because there is amazing old and dirty detail that gives a great effect and is easier to be seen with the picture being captured like this. The lettering is all lowercase apart from the nouns, its simple but worn which makes it look interesting and because its bold it stands out.

This is my seventeenth piece of photography of signage. This sign was on a phone box. Here I captured it to the right at an angle because I felt that including the coloured ‘BT’ signage at the back and the telephone would make the picture look interesting. I also too some inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work as he includes things that surround the signage he is capturing into the photograph. The lettering is uppercase, its really thick and rounded at all edges which makes the type look sleek and also neat.

Here is my eighteenth piece of photography of signage. This was at the side of the road. Here I captured the image in the centre but tiling the camera down. This is so I could capture both pieces of signage at a close distance so the detail and signage can been seen better. The top lettering is lowercase, its small and rounded which makes it look great. The lettering below is uppercase, it is quite wide and it has really thick and long serifs that make it look really posh and important.

This is my nineteenth piece of photography of signage. This was on the back of a car. Here I captured the sign to the right, this was inspiration taken from Robert Brownjohns work where he used this technique in some of his Street Level work. I captured it at a distance because it helped get the glow while making the lettering clear to see at the same time. The lettering is all uppercase, its squared and looks original which is just simple and boring however the squared effect makes it different.

This is my twentieth piece of photography of signage. This was on the side of a garage. Here i captured it a little to the right, tilting up so i could capture a large space of the wall as it looks effective because of the texture. I captured it at a distance so you can see that its night time. The lettering is all uppercase, its bold which helps it to stand out. its also squared which makes it easy to read.

This is my twenty first piece of photography of signage. This was on the bottom of a garage. Here i captured the signage facing down in the centre as i took inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work. I captured it close up as i wanted the lettering to look clear and be easy to see and read. The start of each lettering has capital letters while the rest being lowercase, its bold, thick and close which stands out and looks great.

This is my twenty second piece of photography of signage. This was on a wall. Here i captured the signage more to the left so i could make it glow while still keeping the lettering visible. I captured it at quite a distance  because i wanted most of the wall showing in the photograph as i took inspiration from Robert Brownjohns Street Level work. I also felt it looks great and would look effective once manipulated. The lettering is nice, its all uppercase and slim with small serifs that give it a grand look.

This is my twenty third piece of photography of signage. This was on an old mail box at the side of a street. Here i captured the signage facing upwards and in the center. This is because i wanted to give it a better effect to the photograph by adding other materials in the shot. The lettering is all uppercase, its very small and thick and is beveled which makes it look outstanding.

This is my twenty fourth piece of photography of signage. This was on a bin. Here i captured the signage looking down and more to the left. I wanted to capture the grass as i felt that once manipulated, this would be an effective looking photograph. The lettering is all uppercase, it only has an outline which is thick and bold which makes it stand out and clear to read.
